MAC Lipstick in Bombshell

Hi All!

I know I showed you Snob a few posts back, a MAC lipstick color I cannot stand! I felt it only fair to show you the other side of the coin, a MAC lipstick I love. This one is Bombshell, a pinup-pink. It's a vaguely coral bubblegum pink with a gold frost. It's a little bit retro, but the gold frost keeps it looking young and fresh the way that a traditional white or silver frost wouldn't. Bombshell feels a little lighter than Snob, and not as creamy, which I think makes for a more comfortable lipstick; I'm not as constantly aware of it on my lips. It's not drying; I find it just about neutral. Not moisturizing, and if my lips are already dry I usually try to put some lip balm underneath this, but it doesn't necessarily dry them out while it's on. I also find the application much more forgiving than Snob. I think it's only fair to let you all know that I have some sentimental attachment to Bombshell, too; my mom bought me a tube when I was in 8th grade! Don't worry, I haven't been using the same tube since then. I forgot about it for a few years, and then purchased a second tube awhile back when I stumbled upon my old old old tube, lost in the back of my makeup drawer. It's a really fun color take on basic pink. Like Snob, Bombshell retails for $14.50 for a 1 ounce tube, and is available from www.maccosmetics.com, or at your local MAC counter (many Macy's and Nordstroms have one). It also has the same scent that most MAC lipsticks have; a faintly synthetic, vanilla "makeup" scent. It's faint, though, so unless you're very sensitive, I don't think it will bother you.

So, Bombshell comes in the basic MAC bullet-shaped tube. I think it's nice and sleek; it's one of my favorite tube designs. Simple and functional without looking ugly, clumsy, or unnecessarily bulky.

And here's the lipstick in the tube; it applies surprisingly true to color and opaque on the lips.

And here's a swatch of Bombshell on my skin. You can really see the shine on the frost in the first picture, but the second gives you a good idea of the base shade of pink.

And here it is on my lips; the first picture is without flash, the second is with flash. It's a lovely color; feminine and not your basic pink.  You don't have to worry about getting a sharp line straight out of the tube, it applies really easily.

So, here are some full-face pictures to put it into context. The first photograph was taken without flash and the second was taken with it. It's definitely a noticeable color, but it's not too bright or dark; this would look so fresh and light with a neutral cat-eye for the summer "night-out" look.

Rating: 7 out of 10

I really like this lipstick. Even though I find the inconsistencies across MAC's line frustrating, this lipstick is a winner. It's easy to wear, flattering (at least on me!), and unique. Plus, the formula feels really nice on the lips. And while it's not my absolute favorite formula, it's still comfortable, and significantly less than lipstick formulas I like better. And at a 7/10, I'd definitely recommend this particular shade of lipstick; if you're near a counter, try it out and see if it's some you'd be interested in! I promise you it's not a basic pink; the gold flash definitely adds something special, but this still feels like a classic.

Thanks Dolls!
