NOTD: Orly Synchro

I almost didn't buy this nail polish. I can't believe it! After seeing some swatches online, I was worried it would look like a rose frost... A little mature for my taste. However, it was so pretty in the bottle, and I couldn't stand the idea that it might be prettier in person than it was in photographs. And oh my, was it ever!

Synchro is fuschia-pink based color with a strong yellow-to-gold-to-orange-to-violet flash. I hesitate calling it a multichrome since it feels like the shift is much more fluid than what I think of a multichrome being. You know those iridescent lipglosses that look so cool in the tube, but then are just an itsy bit glowy on the lip? This looks like the tube-color, but on the nail. It has a bit of shimmer in it, too, which comes through much more in the photographs than in real life. In real life, you mostly just see the dazzling shifts in color.

The formula on this was really nice. I didn't have any problems applying it, and it stayed put on my nails for a few days, which is average on  me. The formula is on the thin side, and any imperfections on the nail will show through, even with a nice thick top coat. This is bad news for me, since my nails peel at the drop of a hat. You can see a bit of this imperfection on my ring finger in the following pictures; I had a big peel on my nail and it ended up causing a bubble and a weird concave spot over there. So bear that in mind; this shade might be worth pulling out a ridge filling base coat for if you have similar issues with your nails. It's not too fussy, though; the rest of my nails are far from perfect, and it was only on the worst of them that this showed through.

I've included a bunch of photos so you can see the diferent variations and shifts in color this nail polish takes, depending on the light and angle. I used natural light for all of these photos, direct and indirect.

Hello, I'm a dowdy rose-frost--

OR AM I?

BAM.

Ooooh...

Aaaah...
Summary:  I love this color. Unabashedly. I know it might not be for everyone, but it is one of the few multichromes that translates from the bottle to the nail. The pictures don't do it justice; this is one of those shades where I was staring at my nail A  LOT when I was wearing it. I can't wait to work through some more of my untried to wear it again.

I realized a month or two ago that I only had one Orly, and since then I've been consciously trying to pay more attention to their offerings. I've built up my collection rather quickly, thanks in part to some great clearance sales at Sally Beauty. I've been really pleased with the brand so far; the colors are very unique! What do you guys think of Orly? Any shades in particular you'd recommend?

  2. Very pretty! You did a great job capturing the color shifts in your pics! Definitely my kind of a color, but it does look like something I may pass up just based on the bottle. Thanks for sharing this with us!

    1. I have forgotten to get my mail the last two or three days (it's around the corner) but I will check tomorrow and let you know! It has not landed on my doorstep, but may be languishing in the box. I can't believe I keep forgetting to run over there! Who knows what important mail I have waiting for me? If it's bills I'd rather leave them :P

  6. Neat colour! I have actually been a bit disappointed by Orly, I have a bit of trouble with the formulation and a couple of their colours have been quite disappointing. I got Androgynie and Ingenue from their holiday collection last year and they both looked WAY better in the bottle than they did on! Ingenue looked so cool and it turned out to be a total old lady colour (in my opinion)! Boo!

    1. I could definitely see that being the case with some of the shades! I wore Cramford's Wine last week and it was fine... but not as neat as it looked in the bottle :( Oh well, I guess you win some, you lose some.
